Makambako. Town council officials here have been challenged to work more diligently and be smart in utilising resources at their disposal for the development of the area.

The challenge came from the director general of the Rufiji Basin Development Authority (Rubada), Mr Aloyce Masanja, during a seminar aimed at sensitising the municipal leaders on the government’s Southern Agricultural Growth Corridor of Tanzania (Sagcot) initiative yesterday in Njombe Region.

“It is only by working hard that we can make progress,” he said, adding that blame games should not be entertained, “Each one of us should play his or her part and we’ll see real benefits.”

He also called upon leaders to earmark areas that are conducive for agricultural investment for the benefit of the municipality and the region.

“There are many healthy young people here who are committed to working hard and smartly,” he added. “Co-operate with them so that they can enjoy the fruit of their labour.”

He reminded the councillors that the government’s Big Results Now initiative demands that they work hard and strategically.

Speaking on behalf of other councillors, municipal chairman Chesco Mfikwa, said they would continue working hard and launch new development projects. “We are ready to work with Rubada to make Sagcot successful,” he said.
