Dodoma. Residents of Dabalo Ward in Chamwino District were all smiles recently following the launch of a Sh35-million worth water project.

The project will now cut the time they spent searching for the precious liquid. Previously they were forced to walk up to 5 kilometres in search for water.

The project has been donated by Chilonwa MP Joel Mwaka.

“Water shortage has always been a problem for us here,” said one resident.

With over 10,000 residents, the ward has never had a reliable source of water, something that caused women and children to spend up to 4 hours searching for the precious liquid for their basic needs.

“The time lost, plus the dry spells that hit the area, water shortage was very common here. So, the project is our saviour,” Dabalo Councillor Elisha Matewa said.

However, MP Mwaka hinted that access to safe and clean water in his constituency remained a chronic problem facing almost 80 per cent of the residents.
