TZ and Belgium looks for ways to boost tourism

Dar es Salaam. The University of Dar es Salaam in collaboration with the Belgium Embassy in Tanzania has organised an International Conference on Sustainable Tourism in Dar es salaam from July 28 to 29.

The conference with the theme “Innovation, Spatial Design and Sustainable Tourism” aims  to increase the number of tourists and the number of days they are allowed to spend in the country.

Chairman of the organising committee Dr Omar Mbura said a tourist spends an average of 9 days in the country compared to Kenya where they spend an average of 13 days.

“We don’t have to rely on wildlife only to attract tourists, rather we should use historical buildings and other heritage sites as attractions,” said Dr Mbura.

On his part the Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Arts from The University of Hasselt, Belgium Prof Rob Cuyvers advised Tanzania protect historical buildings to attract tourists.
