 Mwanza. Only two per cent of 100 firms surveyed by the National Environmental Management Council (NEMC) in Lake Zone regions adhere to Environmental preservation regulations.

 Nemc Director General Mr Boniventura Baya  said the survey was conducted in Mwanza, Geita, Simiyu, Kagera, Shinyanga and Mara regions.

The Nemc boss said environmental impact assessment was carried out on mines, petrol stations, hotels, industries and in garages.

He said some fish processing industries and hotels are responsible for spilling polluting water sources while mining firms fail to dispose harmful chemicals contrary to environmental laws.
