Criminal case against Nida officials adjourned

Dar es Salaam. The Kisutu Resident Magistrate Court today adjourned a criminal case facing eight National Identification Authority (Nida) officials to September 14.
Resident Magistrate Respicius Mwijage adjourned the case due to incomplete investigations.
Public Prosecutor, Mr Leonard Swai asked the court to set a date for another mention waiting completion of the investigation.
The accused including former Director General, Mr Dickson Maimu, are charged with several counts including abuse of position and occasioning over Sh1.2 billion loss.
It was alleged that the accused did not use selling exchange rates established by the Bank of Tanzania (BoT) in violation of Clause 19.3 of the agreed contract between NIDA and such company, thereby causing the same to obtain undue advantage and causing loss of 167,445,676.67.
They alleged to have committed the offences in between years 2010 and 2014 in Dar es Salaam.
Other accused are Finance and Accounts manager Mr Benjamin Mwakatumbula, Transport officer Mr George Ntalima, Legal Service director Ms Sabina Raymond.
Others are director of Business Support, Mr Avelin Momburi, Budget and Estate Manager Mr Joseph Makani, director of Gotham International Limited Mr Xavery Kayombo and Mr Astery Ndege who is the director of Aste Insurance Brokers Company Limited.
