Government warns against Uhuru torch trace interference in Mara Region

Musoma. Authorities in Mara Region have warned of dire consequences should anyone interfere with the Uhuru torch run set to start in the area tomorrow, Wednesday August 23. 

Mara Regional Commissioner Dr Charles Mlingwa however said here on Tuesday the Government has no intention of arresting or inconveniencing the public.

Dr Mlingwa explained that the Uhuru torch race was a sign of peace and harmony.

"There are some people mocking the Uhuru torch saying it looks like an oil lamp. So, I warn them against the use of such offensive words during the nine days of its race in our region,” he said.

He said that during the race a total of 61 development projects worth Sh11 billion will be launched, inspected or unveiled. The projects are in education, water, health, infrastructures, agriculture and industrial sectors.

"The public contributed more than Sh4.8 billion, the central government more than Sh4 billion, donors more than Sh2 billion and the local government Sh268 million " he said.

He said eight small and medium industries will be opened to emphasize the government’s clarion call for industrialization.
