Dar es Salaam. The government has ordered the municipal councils to reinstate community development centres and ensure they discharge respective roles to provide skills, entertainment and trainings to the public.

Deputy Minister for Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children, Dr Faustine Ndungulile told the Parliament in Dodoma on Tuesday, November 14, it is encouraging that some of the councils have already started reinstating the community development centres.

Dr Ndungulile was responding to a question raised by Ms Fatma Hassan Tawfiq (Special Seats) who wanted to know when the community development centres roles to provide skills, trainings and entertainment as described in objectives of its establishment, will be re-introduced.

“We need to put emphasis during the council’s meetings. Some municipality councils like Kigoma have restored the centres, but other municipalities like Temeke, Mtwara and Ilala have converted the centres to other uses making it difficult for centres to be returned,” he said.

He said reinstatement of the centres should go in line with recruitment of the new community development officers and their respective use as provided by the Community Development Policy of 1997.
