I’m for enhanced public-private sectors cooperation, Tanzania governor pledges

Dar es Salaam.  Bank of Tanzania (BoT) governor Florens Luoga has said he will focus more on enhancing cooperation between the central bank, commercial banks and the government.

Prof Luoga made the statement on Saturday, March 24, at his meeting with chief executive officers of commercial banks and other financial institutions held at the BoT headquarters in the city.

This was his first meeting with key stakeholders in the financial sector since he assumed the post in January, taking over from Prof Benno Ndulu.

“My focus is to strengthen government-stakeholders relationship for the greater interests of the sector and the country at large,” reads the statement issued by central bank’s public relations and protocol department. 

He also used the platform to share with the participants the country’s current economic trend, regional and global situation, together with the implementation of financial policy as approved by BoT’s board of directors.

Speaking on behalf of other participants, the chairman of the of Tanzania Bankers Association (TBA), Dr Charles Kimei, commended Prof Luoga for coming up with the idea of meeting with heads of banks and financial institutions saying the move would help boosting the sector.

“We ask for the possibility of the central bank to meet with TBA so that we can discuss general and specific issued related to the financial sector,” he suggested.
