Tanzania sets aside Sh11bn to connect Dar households to natural gas

Dar es Salaam. The second phase of construction of infrastructures that will see Dar es Salaam households are connected with natural gas for domestic purpose is expected to get underway in July, it has been revealed. 

The project aims at supplying natural gas pipelines in Kigamboni, Mbagala and Mkuranga areas, according to the Energy Minister, Dr Medard Kalemani.

Mr Kalemani made the remark on Sunday, May 20, when launching Phase One of the project, which aims to connect Ubungo and Mikocheni residents with the natural resource from the southern regions.

According to Dr Kalemani, the Sh11 billion project will take two years or so to be completed.

“The phase one project will see more than 1,000 residents being connected to natural gas infrastructures. However, the big project will start in July, 2018, which will serve thousands of households,” he said.

He added that, the projects are in line with the national agenda to reduce use of imported liquid gas and charcoal.
