Dodoma. Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa has urgued religious leaders to preach peace to maintain national peace and security and uphold the country’s pride.

Mr Majaliwa made a statement on Sunday, at the Holy Spirit Main Church in Dodoma during the coronation of Dr Maimbo Mndolwa who becomes the seventh Anglican Church of Tanzania (ACT) archbishop. Bishop Mndolwa succeeds Mpwapwa bishop, Dr Jacob Chimeledya.

Mr Majaliwa said the country’s pride will be maintained if clerics will play their significant role to preach love and maintenance of peace to their worshippers and the community surrounding them.

The Premier said peace was everything, noting that its disruption will make development and good life unattainable.

He said worshippers should work hard to improve their economies and alleviate poverty.

“Our country is famous for maintenance of peace, solidarity and stability. This is why we have been entrusted with various international roles including mediation and arbitration of disputes,” he said, adding,

“Keep on praying for the country especially President John Magufuli; for his health, wisdom and love in leading the nation.”

He called upon the clerics to avoid disputes in churches, noting that the like destroyed their images and removed the glory of God.

For his part, Dr Mndolwa said he was aware of the hard work ahead and obligation he had.

“I visited the State House soon after being elected to meet the president. I have plans to visit Zanzibar for a similar purpose. I’ll also hold talks with the Muslims Chief Cleric and leaders of other denominations to establish our collective cooperation,” he said.

Speaking during the event, bishop Chimeledya said Dr Mndolwa had hard work ahead, especially in leading worshippers in a globalized world.

Apart from Dr Mndolwa and Dr Chimeledya, other bishops who led the church and their respective years in bracket are Bishop John Thomas Mhina Sepetu (1970-1978) and Bishop Musa Kalemo Kahurananga (1979-1983).

Others are bishop John Auckland Ramadhani (1984-1997), bishop Donald Leo Mtetemela (1998-2008) and bishop, Dr Valentino Leonard Mokiwa (2009-2013).
