Tanzania plans to revive its fisheries corporation

The government is planning to revive its fisheries corporation (Tafico)  to supervise the sector.

Deputy Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Mr Abdallah Ulega said on Wednesday that reviving Tafico needs Sh45 billion that will include buying two fishing ships as promised in the 2015-2020 manifesto of the ruling party, CCM. 

Dodoma. The government is planning to revive its fisheries corporation (Tafico)  to supervise the sector. 

Deputy Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Mr Abdallah Ulega said on Wednesday that reviving Tafico needs Sh45 billion that will include buying two fishing ships as promised in the 2015-2020 manifesto of the ruling party, CCM. 

Mr Ulega was responding to a question asked by Mr Mattar Salum (Shaurimoyo-CCM) who wanted to know what the government was doing to promote fishing in the main sea. 

Mr Ulega said his ministry was talking with the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) and other public and private sector institutions to invest in the fisheries sector. 

"We have got a consultant to conduct feasibility study for the construction of the fishing port in Tanzania," added Mr Ulega.
