Dar es Salaam. The newly appointed Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) Secretary General, Dr Bashiru Ally said on Thursday that he will abide to the party’s position concerning the new constitution.
Dr Bashiru made the statement on Thursday, May 31, 2018 at the CCM Lumumba offices in the city after his precedessor, Mr Adulrahman Kinana handed over the office to him .
Dr Bashiru said it was different commenting on political issues as a commentator and as a party executive.
"Nobody could fire me for the comments I uttered as a political commentator, " he said, adding,
"But after assuming the new party roles, I'm supposed to abide to decisions made by the party, especially the National Executive Committee (Nec) that remains to be my employer. Therefore, reserving powers to dismiss me from the position."
He promised outstanding leadership, obedience to the party and the national constitutions. Before his new role, Dr Bashiru was known to advocate for a new Katiba that would cater for a multiparty system.
Responding to critics over lack of experience in active politics, Dr Bashiru said executives are not meant to appear in platforms to address rallies and the public.
"We are meant to design workable strategies for the party. People shouldn’t expect me at the podium, which is the duty of party's national chairman and his two vice chairman," he said.
Dr Bashiru said the national party leaders will closely be assisted by elected regional, district, division, ward and village leaders.
