Dodoma. The government has dispatched a team of experts to evaluate the magnitude of technical faults in MV Mtwara and MV Lindi so they can be fixed.

The Deputy Minister for Works, Transport and Communications, Mr Atashasta Nditiye said in Parliament on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 that the government understands the importance of the ships to economic livelihoods of Lindi and Mtwara residents, hence the need to fix them.

"We have already dispatched a team of experts to evaluate the magnitude of the faults so that we can be able to know how much will be required to fix them," he said.

He said the aim was to ensure that the ships become operational as soon as possible.

Mr Nditiye was responding to a question from Mr Ally Seif Ugando (Kibiti - CCM) who wanted to know when will the government fix the ships so they can transport cement and other products from Mtwara to Dar es Salaam.

This, he said, would save the road - linking Dar es Salaam and Mtwara - from damage due to heavy trucks.
