Madabida 'fake' ARV case to be heard for three consecutive days

Dar es Salaam. The Kisutu resident Magistrate court will  hear evidences concerning a case of supplying counterfeit Antiretroviral drugs (ARVs) facing six officials of Tanzania Pharmaceutical Industries (TPI) and Medical Stores Department (MSD) for three days consecutively.

 

The accused, including TPI chief executive officer Ramadhani Rashid Madabida who was also CCM chairman for Dar es Salaam Region and five others.

 

The decision was issued by Chief Resident Magistrate Huruma Shahidi on Wednesday June 13, saying evidences would be heard effectively between July 9 and 11.

 

“I want the prosecution side to bring enough witnesses so that we can hear them in three weeks so that the case would be completed as soon as possible,” he said in the court room when the case was brought for evidence hearing.

 

Three witnesses have already issued their statements in the court.

 

Others are the firm’s director of operations Seif Shamte, Marketing Manager Simon Msofe and Fatma Shango who is the firm’s Assistant Accountant.

 

Charged along with the four are MSD Quality Assurance Manager Sadiki Materu and Evans Mwemezi who is quality assurance officer.

 

They are facing five counts of supplying counterfeit drugs, obtaining money by false documents, neglecting to prevent commission of the offence and occasioning Sh148.3 million loss.
