Share of agriculture to national GDP grows in 2017

Dodoma. The share of agriculture to Tanzania’s gross domestic product (GDP) grew in 2017, signaling the sector’s growing significance to the economy.

The Minister for Finance and Planning, Dr Phillip Mpango told the Parliament on Thursday, June 14, 2018, that agriculture activities accounted for 30.1 per cent of the GDP last year, from 29.2 per cent in 2016.

Presenting the Economic Survey Report for 2017 and the National Development Plan for 2018/19 in Parliament, the Finance and Planning Minister, Dr Phillip Mpango said manufacturing and construction activities were also some of the dominant sectors in Tanzania’s economy last year, accounting for 26.4 per cent of the GDP, from 24.9 per cent in 2016.
