Tanzanian lawmakers to go for HIV testing on Thursday

Dodoma. Members of Parliament (MPs) will undergo HIV testing on Thursday as the legislative body wants to lead by example in the fight against Aids-causing viruses.
The chairman for a Parliamentary Committee on HIV and Aids Affairs, Mr Oscar Mukasa, said on Tuesday, that the group will undertake a number of initiatives in support of the government’s nationwide HIV testing campaign which Prime Minister, Kassim Majaliwa launched here today (on Tuesday, June 19, 2018).
Dubbed 'Furaha Yangu, test and treat', the campaign will be implemented by the government in collaboration with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Tulonge Afya Project and other stakeholders within the health sector.
“Of the activities to be undertaken by MPs in support of the initiative, we will have an HIV testing service on Thursday, June 21, where some MPs will take their tests voluntarily,” said Mr Mukasa.
Other activities to be undertaken by the Parliament, according to Mr Mukasa, include a symposium on the role of leaders in the fight against HIV which will be held tomorrow, Wednesday, June 20.
There will also be exhibitions on a number of activities undertaken by non-governmental organisations regarding the fight against HIV from Friday to Saturday.
