Shein picks Hamid Mahmoud Hamid to succeed Jecha at ZEC

Dar es Salaam. Zanzibar President, Dr Ali Mohamed Shein has on Wednesday, June 20, 2018, appointed retired Chief Justice of Zanzibar, Hamid Mahmoud Hamid the new Zanzibar Electoral Commission (ZEC) chairman.

A statement issued on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 signed by the Principal Permanent Secretary Dr Abdulhamid Yahya Mzee says Dr Shein has also appointed six members of the commission.

Before the appointment, ZEC was chaired by Mr Jecha Salim Jecha.

“ZEC appointed members are; Mabruki Jabu Makame, Feteh Saad Mgeni, Makame Juma Pandu, Dr Kombo Khamis Hassan, Judge Khamis Ramadhan Abdulla and Jokha Khamis Makame,” reads a statement in part.

According to the statement, the appointment takes effect from today and that all the appointees will be sworn in on Friday, June 22, 2018 at an event slated to take place at the Zanzibar State House.

Meanwhile, President John Magufuli has appointed Mr Mohammed Ali Ahmed deputy registrar of political parties in Zanzibar.

“Before the appointment Mr Ahmed worked as a lawyer and researcher at the Zanzibar Legal Reforms Commission (ZLRC),” reads the statement signed by director of presidential communications directorate, Gerson Msigwa.
