Dar es Salaam. Miss Universe Tanzania 2007 Flaviana Matata last week was named as ‘The Most Inspirational Woman’ at the Global Woman Award Gala that took place in New York.

Flaviana is a model, beauty pageant winner, humanitarian and entrepreneur. In 2007, she became the first Tanzanian to represent her country on the world stage, with a shaved head, at the Miss Universe competition.

Flaviana placed sixth overall and went on to model for Vivienne Westwood, Tory Burch, and Alexander McQueen. While she can still be seen in fashion campaigns and editorial shots all over the world, the Tanzanian is building a reputation for herself as businesswoman and philanthropist in East Africa.

She is founder and CEO of non-profit organisation The Flaviana Matata Foundation (FMF), which empowers young, orphaned girls in Tanzania through education, training, and micro-finance projects to improve their livelihoods. To date, FMF has provided school supplies to over 3,000 girls.

As an entrepreneur, in 2016, Flaviana launched her own nail polish line called Lavvy Products. The first shipment sold out in two weeks proof that this top model is business savvy, and poised for a successful future as an entrepreneur.

Global Woman Club, is the fastest growing networking community for women in business, in Europe, now in the United States, and just launched in South Africa.

“This past weekend I attended the Global Woman Award Gala and received a surprise award for “The Most Inspirational Woman,” Flaviana twitted in her twitter account.

She also added, “I dedicate this award to every woman and man who has been part of my journey. I would never have gotten this far if it wasn’t for the people who continue to believe in me. I still have a long way to go but God is great and I don’t take anything for granted.”
