Dar es Salaam. Betty Boniface, 20, of Dar es Salaam on Friday won this year’s Miss Universe Tanzania in the city.

She beat 14 contestants to win a ticket for representing Tanzania at the Miss Universe beauty pageant to be held in Moscow on November 9 this year.

She also won Sh3 million and $1,000 to be used in her trip to Moscow.

She will also get preparations ahead of the world event from Healthy and Beauty Clinic, clothes worth Sh1 million from Sia Couture, a return ticket to Johannesburg from FastJet and coaching from Compass Communications.

It was a tough job for Betty to win the crown since most contestants underwent intensive rehearsals.

Judges had a tough job to select top 10 contestants and later top five and finally the winner.

“I am happy to win this title, my dream has come true and now I am focusing on how to bring honour to Tanzania like Flaviana Matata did in 2007,” said Betty.

She said all contestants deserved the crown, but her natural beauty, confidence and intelligence made her win the top prize.

The Tanzania National Parks, FastJet, Mohamed Enterprises Ltd, Coca-Cola, Missie Popular Blog, Healthy Beauty Clinic, Beauty Point, Sia Couture, Seif Kabelele Blog, AZH and Adams Digicom sponsored the venet.

The pageant also saw Clara Noor of Mwanza win Miss Earth crown and will represent the country in the third edition of Miss Earth beauty pageant on November 9, 2003 at the UP Theatre, in Quezon City, Philippines.

Apart from Betty and Clara, others in the top five positions were Aziza Victoria, Irene Nsiima and Consolata Mosha all from Dar es Salaam.
