ACT Wazalendo calls for dignified exit of Zimbabwean President Mugabe

Dar es Salaam. Opposition party, ACT Wazalendo, has called upon the Southern African Development Community (SADC) to ensure there is dignified retirement of Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe.

A statement released by party’s foreign affairs chairman Venance Msebo on Thursday, November 16, says ACT Wazalendo understands that the liberation hero in the Southern African country has turned into the oppressor of his own people.

“The party is also aware that Mr Mugabe has turned into the destroyer of one of the best economies on the continent. However, his contribution to liberation and decolonisation of the continent will not be forgotten,” reads part of the statement.

He noted that the party was advising the SADC Troika to convene an emergency meeting to deliberate on necessary measures to normalise state of affairs in the Southern African nation, noting that the people’s plight should be ended.

In the statement, Act Wazalendo further says the party has been closely following the situation in Zimbabwe over the last few days, urging the citizens to remain calm, while maintaining peace and stability in the country.

“Although we support a transition period to democracy in Zimbabwe, we think that the army should remain in barracks. The country shouldn’t become the first frontline countries that has succumbed to a military coup,” the statement says.
