Dar es Salaam.  ACT Wazalendo on Saturday, July 7, 2018, announced its participation in the Buyungu parliamentary by-election.

It will also take part in 79 ward by-elections, all in Kigoma Region.

The party's deputy chairman, Mr Shaaban Mambo, told journalists at Kijitonyama in Dar es Salaam that ACT Wazalendo was determined to cooperate with other opposition parties to defeat CCM candidates.

He said ACT Wazalendo was confident of winning by-elections in at least 30 wards.

Meanwhile, ACT Wazalendo Ideology, Publicity and Public Communications secretary Ado Shaibu said the party was unhappy with bills aimed at amending the Statistics Act and the Tanganyika Law Society Act.

He insisted that the TLS Governing Council was not well consulted during the Bill formulation process. "The Bill to amend the TLS Act intends to deny the entity from exercising its legal functions effectively. The government wants to make TLS unimportant."

He said the party's central committee had instructed its Kigoma Urban MP Zitto Kabwe to oppose the Bill upon the Parliamentary meeting’s resumption in September.

Mr Shaibu called on government authorities dealing with statistics and data dissemination to allow stakeholders to question their capacities whenever wrong statistics are made public.

"ACT Wazalendo has been in the forefront to ensure that government statistics are relevant and accurate. Some of our leaders have been interrogated by security organs whenever they oppose government statistics," he explained.

He mentioned the recent party's reaction on the government statistics on Tanzania's economic growth and revenue collections as examples of the party's effectiveness to monitor the government statistics.
