Dar es Salaam. Former adviser to ACT Wazalendo Prof Kitila Mkumba has joined the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM).

A statement issued on Thursday, November 16, by Singida regional CCM chairperson Martha Mlata said the ruling party welcomed the professor, who is also the permanent secretary in the ministry of Water and Irrigation.

“We should continue strengthening our party in the region and country in general. We also should implement the party’s election manifesto for the prosperity of the region and the country in general,” reads part of the statement.

When reached for comments, ACT Wazalendo secretary for ideology, publicity and public communication Addo Shaibu said it was difficult for Prof Mkumbo to stay outside politics, noting that he was sure he would resume active politics.

“It was a matter of time to know, which political party would be his target; CCM, Chadema, NCCR or ACT Wazalendo. But, joining CCM, Prof Mkumbo worked to eliminate what he called a conflict of interest in serving his new position following President John Magufuli’s recent appointment,” he added.

“ACT Wazalendo would like to wish him all the best in his political and administrative endeavor.”
