Singida. At least 12 people, including a bridegroom, are reported dead and 22 others, including a bride, severely injured after two vehicles crashed at Ighuka Village in Ikungi District.
Singida regional police commander ACP Bebora Magiligimba confirmed the accident, saying “it occurred on Thursday at about 8pm”.
He further said preliminary investigation showed that, high speed and violation of road traffic rules were the cause of the accident. He noted that Hiace (T 581 BBV), which was travelling to Mkiwa Village from Mpipiti Village carrying people, who were returning home from a wedding party, crashed with Toyota Noah (T 423 CFF), which was travelling to Singida town from Manyoni, carrying people, who were returning home from a funeral service.
Some of those, who died include Mwanaidi Juma, Nasima Juma, Abubakari Omari, Janson Nzunsa, Mery Tinko and John Thomas Duma. The bodies are kept at Singida Regional Hospital, the RPC said.
For his part, the medical officer in-charge of Puma Hospital, Dr Corbinian Nyenyembe, confirmed to have received four bodies. He further said two other people died, while they were receiving treatment. Commenting on the survivors, the RPC confirmed that 22 survivors were admitted to Puma Hospital and others were transferred to the regional hospital.
