Exim Bank donates 40 beds, mattresses to Dodoma general hospital

Dodoma. Exim Bank Tanzania has donated 40 beds and 40 mattresses to the Dodoma General Referral Hospital’s maternal ward to supplement government efforts to improve health service delivery at the designated capital metropolis.

A development campaign by the bank, ‘20 years of taking care of the community’ targeted to, among others, improving health service delivery by donating at least 500 mattresses and beds to public hospitals in 13 regions in the country.

Speaking after the donation, the Dodoma regional commissioner, Dr Binilith Mahenge, hailed Exim Bank Tanzania for timely support.

He said the maternal ward at the regional hospital had a shortage of at least 200 beds and urged other companies and well-wishers to help address the shortage.

“Since Dodoma has become an official capital city there is a need for improvement of health facilities and service delivery from grassroots. However, the fifth phase government’s main focus is to ensure availability of health services at village, ward, district and regional levels,” he added.

Exim Bank marketing and communication head Stanley Kafu said the bank had so far invested highly in health, environment and education sectors for the past four years.

“Our future plans, include donating beds and mattress to hospitals in Mbeya, Mwanza, Arusha, Morogoro, Tanga, Kigoma, Kilimanjaro, Shinyanga, Mtwara, Pemba and Unguja,” he explained.

For her part, hospital doctor in-charge Caroline Damian said the donation would help improve maternal service delivery.

“Between 20 and 40 mothers come to delivery daily, but we have a shortage of deliver beds. This donation will to a considerable extent enable us to overcome this challenge,” she said.
