Airtel opens 2000 shops to get closer to clients

Dar es Salaam. Airtel Tanzania is planning to establish over 2,000 retail outlets across the country a move the company says will promote financial inclusion through availability of mobile money services.

The company said in a statement yesterday that the new shops will be located at key recreational hubs across the country and will provide services including mobile money.

Others services include data connections, recharge, sim registration as well as instant activation of new connections, according to the company’s managing director Mr Sunil Colaso. Shinyanga has become the first region to get these shopts.

“Airtel has already launched eight shops in Shinyanga region and 70 more would be launched in the region,” he said during the launch of Airtel retail shop in Shinyanga yesterday. “With this project more than 2000 Airtel stores will be opened across the country to begin with Shinyanga,” he added.

The Shinyanga District Commissioner Josephine Matiro said; “We are pleased with Airtel initiative to widening its services and create employment for many in the region. I want to encourage retailers to jointly partners with Airtel to upgrade your businesses and create employment to youth in the region.”
