Citibank opens new Tanzania head offices

Dar es Salaam. Citibank-Tanzania has officially opened a new headquarters at Serengeti House. This is on Plot 1962, Toure Drive, Oyster Bay, near Coco Beach.

Speaking at the brief ceremony to open the new office, Jim Cowles, Citi’s chief executive officer (CEO) for Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMEA) said the bank focuses on being the best bank for its clients.

“Citi’s focus is premised on being the best bank for our clients and the recognition that we are a safer and simpler bank that is well-positioned for growth. This investment in our new premises is a statement of our commitment to the business in Tanzania – and the reconition that we are a safer and simpler bank that is well positioned for growth,” the CEO said.

The bank began its operations in Tanzania, in 1995, focused on Corporate and Investment banking.

For his part, theCitibank-Tanzania’s Chief Executive Officer, Joseph Carasso, said that, “over the past two decades, Citi has contributed to the financial landscape in Tanzania, and we are the leading Corporate Bank with a collection network of over 160 branches serving local corporates, public sector, multinationals and financial institutions.”

Citi works globally to develop solutions that enable the bank, its clients and partners to expand access to financial services and advance economic progress in underserved market segments.

Officiating at the opening ceremony on behalf of the finance minister, Dr Phillip Mpango, the commissioner for External Finance at the ministry, Mr John Rubuga, said the Tanzania government was pleased with Citi’s re-investment program that includes Tanzania in Citi’s unrivaled global network of more than 160 countries – doing so on the back of an industry-leading technology platform.

“This is an affirmation of Tanzania’s national financial inclusion agenda to transform the lives of its citizens through increased use of financial services.”

Citibank-Tanzania is today the 8th largest bank in Tanzania. Itwas recently named the ‘EuromoneyBest Investment Bank in Tanzania and Africa,’ and ‘Best Bank for Transaction Services in Africa.’
