DSE market cap falls by Sh128bn

Dar es Salaam. The Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSE) market capitalisation decreased by Sh128.34 billion to Sh22.2 trillion on Monday’s close from Sh22.3 trillion recorded on Friday.

The decrease market capitalisation was a result of fall in share prices among cross-listed companies including Acacia (ACA), National Investments Company (Nicol) and Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB).

The DSE market report shows that ACA share prices decreased by 6.0 per cent to Sh3,760 on Monday from Sh4,000 on Friday, while Nicol share price fell by 3.39 per cent to close a day at Sh285 from Sh295 respectively. KCB share prices decreased by 0.91 per cent to Sh1,090 on Monday from Sh1,100 on Friday.

The decrease in share prices for the cross listed companies has also resulted to a shrink in DSE all share index (DSEI) by 13.31 per cent to 2,303.19 points from 2,316.5 points at that period.

The Tanzania Share Index (TSI) also decreased by 0.08 per cent to 4,176.44 points from 4,176.5 during that time.

On an opening day of the week, a total turnover of Sh99.6 million was reached from 135,620 shares traded in 70 deals.

Foreign investors injected Sh60.6 million through buying shares. The amount accounted for 60.84 per cent of purchases while local investors injected 39.16 per cent of the buying value.

The market report shows that all shares floated on that day were floated by local investors by hundred per cent.
