Dar es Salaam. In an effort to increase the blood bank, Mkombozi Commercial Bank employees conducted a blood donation event as part of commemoration of World Blood Donor Day.

The event took place at Msimbazi Centre in Dar es Salaam in collaboration with Mloganzila Hospital.

Speaking during the exercise, Mkombozi Bank managing director George Shumbusho said this was part of the bank’s employees’ Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) .

“Shortage of blood is still a big problem in and out of Tanzania hence the reason for us as one of the leading banks in Tanzania, have come out to donate blood and also sensitize other Tanzanians to do the same,” he said.

He said the blood, which is kept by the National Blood Transfusion Service (NBTS), had helped in saving hundreds of patients who needed blood, especially during accidents, maternity cases and operations.

“We have also done this after realising that there are some rare blood groups hence if we develop a habit of donating blood regularly, NBTS will have sufficient blood in its bank, hence save more lives,” he said.

He applauded other Tanzanians who turned up for the donation exercise that was organised by his bank in collaboration with experts from Mlozangila Hospital and appealed to them to make this a regular exercise so they can save more lives.

The World Blood Donor Day is marked on June 14 every year in different parts of the world.
