DHL Global Forwarding (DGF) which deals with air and ocean freight services scaled down Tanzania operations since July 1, 2017 for undisclosed reasons.

Dar es Salaam. DHL Express, a global provider of courier, parcel and express mail services, said its Tanzania operations remain unaffected despite a decision by sister company to pull out of the country.

DHL Global Forwarding (DGF) which deals with air and ocean freight services scaled down Tanzania operations since July 1, 2017 for undisclosed reasons.

DGF said it would contract a local company to take over its operations.

DHL Express, DHL Global Forwarding and DHL Supply Chain are all divisions of the Deutsche Post DHL Group which is one of the leading global mail and logistics companies.

“Our hope is actually to maintain or increase our market share which is currently over 70 per cent. We heavily invested in Tanzania for all 29 years of operating in the country and we intend to do more both in staff and infrastructure,” said the company’s managing director for Tanzania Mr Femi Olaiya yesterday. “Tanzania is one of the best countries for investment and we are still investing,” he said without disclosing the planned amount of investment in both long and short term. He said the firm was also investing by buying more motor vehicles but recently the focus has been on motor bikes due to traffic challenges especially in Dar es Salaam.

DHL Express has over 120 retail outlets in Tanzania and efforts are being made to expand operations in the country depending on the demand.
