SMEs benefit from training on financial skills: Barclays

Dar es Salaam. In an effort to broaden skills on financial management and development, Barclays Bank Tanzania has trained 50 operators of small and medium enterprises (SMEs), being part of corporate social responsibility.

The seminar aimed at increasing SMEs knowledge of how to conduct their business more profitably and also empower customers to broaden their understanding.

Barclays Bank Tanzania’s head of Small Medium Entrepreneurs, Mr Ahmed Khamis, said that the seminar is part of Barclays Bank Tanzania agenda to ensure that they give back to the community they serve.

“Barclays Bank believes in shared growth strategy which runs across the community growth and one business prosperity. The SMEs have acquired more knowledge on how to configure business plans and strategies for promoting trade, how to put records, and good ways of borrowing,” Mr Khamis said.

“We have realised the importance of training and guiding our customers, especially those who borrow and today is the inauguration day for training whereby the SMEs will be given training on, business planning, business promotion techniques, and keeping the best Borrowing techniques. The training will continue throughout the entire country with the aim of building the capacity of our customers,” said Hamis adding that Barclays have so far done such workshops in Zanzibar and Arusha and are looking to reach other regions.

Mr Khamis said that four government institutions have had an opportunity to present their operations which featured on easing business growth to the SMEs. The experts included the Tanzania Revenue Authority TRA which centered on tax administration and use of EFD, Brela experts where their topics was on selling information and online business registration.

Brela Companies Department head Rehema Kitambi said registration of companies has now been improved through an online system which has made companies registration simpler and cheap.
