TTB, 3 airlines to promote tourism

Dar es Salaam. Four organisations have agreed to work jointly to promote Tanzania’s tourism.

An agreement to that effect was signed yesterday here by officials of the Tanzania Tourist Board (TTB), Ethiopian Airlines, Air Tanzania and Coastal Aviation.

For a start they will organise a three-day tourism expo, which will start on October 13 here.

To be known as the Swahili International Tourism Expo, the event is expected to attract 150 exhibitors from host Tanzania, Kenya, Mauritius, Rwanda, Seychelles and Uganda. Traditional dancers will entertain to the audience.

TTB managing director Devota Mdachi said the aim of organising the expo is to make Tanzania’s tourism attractions known to the rest of the world. Ethiopian Airlines resident manager Dahlak Teferi said the airline looked forward to be a dependable stakeholder in making tourism attractions in East Africa and the Horn of Africa known globally.

“We shall continue to bring guests from Asia, America and Europe to Tanzania and take them close to tourism attractions.”

Air Tanzania managing director Ladislaus Matindi said the airline and TTB are looking into ways of taking tourists right into tourism attractions using special planes.

According to him, tourism has many opportunities for local and foreign passengers. He promised that the airline would its services to attract more customers, post profits and promote tourism.
