Uchumi top gainer at DSE as share price jumps by 30pc

Dar es Salaam. Uchumi Supermarkets emerged the top gainer at the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSE) on Monday, after its price rose by more than a third.

A DSE market report shows that the company share price climbed by 33.33 per cent to close at Sh20 from an opening price of Sh15.

The improvement of the company’s share price also increased its market capitalisation to Sh7.30 billion during Monday’s close from Sh5.47 billion during the closing session on Friday, last week.

The DSE report shows that Kenya Airways became the second gainer after its share price rose to Sh265 at closing on from Sh255 during Monday’s opening.

The improvement also pushed up the company market capitalisation to Sh1.5 trillion on Monday’s close from, Sh1.4 during last week Friday’s close.

Another gainer was East African Breweries Limited whose share price gained to Sh4,240 during Monday’s close from Sh4,180 during an opening session of the same day.

The report showed that Sh7 million was recorded from transacting 22,676 shares in 15 deals.

DSE was incorporated in September 1996 and trading started in April 1998. It is a member of the African Stock Exchanges Association. The exchange is open five days a week, from Monday through Friday. The trading days are weekly from Monday to Friday, starting from 10.00 am to 14.00 pm.

The activities of the exchange are monitored and supervised by the Capital Markets and Securities Authority. The DSE operates in close association with the Nairobi Securities Exchange in Kenya and the Uganda Securities Exchange in Uganda. Plans are underway to integrate the three to form a single East African bourse
