Korogwe. The CCM Parliamentary candidate for Korogwe Rural, Mr Timotheo Mzava, has been declared the winner.

He has secured the Parliamentary seat unopposed after emerging as the only candidate who managed to submit nomination forms to the returning officer within the specified deadline in line with the country’s electoral laws.

Speaking late on Monday, August 21, the returning officer for Korogwe Rural, who doubles as District Executive Officer for Korogwe, Dr George Nyaronga said the ‘CCM candidate had won unopposed’.

Mr Timotheo Mzava was one of the three politicians who were nominated to represent the ruling party in the September 16, 2018 by-elections.

On Wednesday last week, the party’s Central Committee also nominated Mr Mwita Waitara to vie for Ukonga parliamentary seat and Mr Julius Kalanga Laizer to represent it (CCM) in the race for Monduli constituency.

Korogwe Rural Constituency in Tanga Region fell vacant after the death of its former MP Stephen Ngonyani while Dar es Salaam’s Ukonga and Monduli’s Arusha constituencies fell vacant after Mr Mwita and Mr Laizer ditched the opposition Chadema (on whose ticket they won their respective parliamentary seats in 2015) and joined CCM, citing their various political reasons.

Two weeks ago, the National Electoral Commission (NEC) Vice-Chairman Judge Mbarouk Salim Mbarouk said by-elections in the three constituencies and two wards will be held on September 16, 2018.

He said nomination forms for the parliamentary contestants would be issued from August 13 to 20 and that actual nominations would be done on August 20.

The nominations would pave way for campaigns to be conducted between August 21 and September 15.
