CCM reclaims Monduli parliamentary seat

Announcing the by-election results at midnight, September 17, the Monduli District Council’s election supervisor, Mr Stephen Ulaya said the Chadema candidate, Mr Yonas Laizer collected 3,187 votes.

Monduli. The CCM parliamentary candidate for Monduli constituency, Mr Julius Kalanga, has been declared the winner of the Sunday by-election after garnering 65,714 votes, which is equivalent to 95 per cent of all votes.

Announcing the by-election results at midnight, September 17, the Monduli District Council’s election supervisor, Mr Stephen Ulaya said the Chadema candidate, Mr Yonas Laizer collected 3,187 votes.

Other candidates and their votes in brackets are ACT Wazalendo’s Wilfred Mlay (144), NRA candidate Feruz Juma (45) and Demokrasia Makini’s Simon Ngilisho (35).

Others are the DP’s candidate, Mr Omary Juma (34), Francis Ringo of ADA-Tadea (21) while Elizabeth Salewa from the Farmers Party garnered 16 votes.

According to him, the by-election that gathered eight candidates was held to fill the vacant seat left behind by the parliamentarian elect, Mr Kalanga, who had resigned his Chadema membership before defecting to CCM.

After being declared the winner, Mr Kalanga thanked voters and promised to serve them with great integrity.

He revealed his priorities as, providing citizens with clean and safe water and finding lasting solutions to land disputes in the area.

“These are among my top 10 priorities. I will collaborate with other leaders to ensure that we bring development to the people of this constituency,” he said.

For his part, deputy minister for Education, Science and Technology, who doubles as the Ngorongoro Member of Parliament, Mr William Ole Nasha said CCM had won the by-election because of achievements attained by the fifth phase government.

"This should serve as a lesson for other constituencies, which are under the opposition in the region. We conducted peaceful campaigns and won, which also tells that the society should reject politics that trigger chaos,” he said.

CCM legislators present during the results declarations include Steven Kiruswa (Longido), Dr Godwin Mollel (Siha) and Special Seats MPs Martha Mlata and Catherine Magige.
