Dodoma. The ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi will hold an extra-ordinary general meeting on March 12, which among other things, is set to discuss amendments to the party’s constitution.

The meeting will be held three months after the National Executive Committee (NEC) and the Central Committee (CCM) issued their proposals on how the party’s constitution should be amended. It will be chaired by President John Magufuli.

Among other things the two organs proposed the amendment of the party’s leadership structure in order to reduce the number of leadership positions. “The party has undertaken many reforms since President Magufuli took over power, so there is need to amend the party’s constitution,” read a statement, which was issued by CCM deputy Secretary General (mainland), Mr Rodrick Mpongolo. The statement noted that participants would also discuss the timetable for the intra-party elections, which will take place later this year. The meeting will be preceded by the party’s CC and NEC meeting which will sit on March 10 and 11 respectively.
