Zanzibar. Opposition party Civic United Front (CUF) on Tuesday criticised President Magufuli’s order for police to use force to detain suspects.

Speaking at the party’s office in Stone Town director for Information and Public Relations Salim Bimani said the President’s directive would discourage efforts of narrowing the gap between the police and members of the public.

“Calling for such a stringent measure will result in creating fear among law abiding citizens, who play a pivotal role in helping the police hunt down suspected criminals within and outside their communities,” he said.

He said the President, as the Commander in Chief was supposed to take extra care with what he says as some police officers might take advantage of the order.

CUF cautioned the Police from being used by government leaders while carrying out their duties.
