This follows a recent warning hat heavy rain will pound in various parts of the country in December.

Speaking to reporters yesterday in Dodoma recently, the deputy minister in the Prime Minister’s Office (Responsible for the Disabled), Ms Stella Alex, also advised Tanzanians to utilise the rains by engaging in various development activities. Ms Alex said there was a need for the construction of dams and reservoirs for collecting rainwater, which could be used in agricultural activities. “The office of the Prime Minister, through the Disaster Management Department (DMD) calls upon leaders and all people to utilise the rainy season for production activities,” she noted.

For his part, the department’s acting director Ally Mwatima said they had already prepared equipment for helping people, who would be affected by the heavy rain across the country.

“Our equipment include bedding, food, temporary shelters apart from the DMD’s obligation of improving infrastructure and giving support to flood victims.”

This is also the obligation of the respective sector and councils,” said Mr Mwatima.

“For instance, currently sufficient food is kept in warehouses of the National Food Reserve Agency (NFRA). Our department will respond quickly in case some areas face shortage,” he said.
