Dodoma. The government has pleaded with institutions and other stakeholders to come up with apt measures, which may help minimise the impact of rainstorms.

Speaking to reporters yesterday at the Bunge grounds in Dodoma, the deputy minister in the Prime Minister’s Office (Responsible for the Disabled), Ms Stella Alex also advised wananchi to take full advantage of the rain by engaging in various development activities.

 

Ms Alex added that there is a need for the people to consider constructing dams and reservoirs for collecting rainwater, which can be useful in a range of agricultural activities.

“The Office of the Prime Minister, through the Disaster Management Department (DMD) calls upon leaders and all people to exploit the rainy season for production activities,” she said.

 

For his part, the department’s acting director, Mr Ally Mwatima said they had already prepared equipment for helping people who would be affected by the anticipated heavy rain in all its six zones.

 

“Our equipment include bedding, food, temporary shelters and apart from the DMD’s obligation of improving infrastructure and giving support to those affected. This is also the obligation of the respective sector and councils,” said Mr Mwatima.

“For instance, currently sufficient food is kept in warehouses of the National Food Reserve Agency (NFRA). Our department will respond quickly in case some areas face shortage,” he said.
