Chadema: Security organs are our number one suspect over Lissu’s attack

What you need to know:

Speaking during a press conference at Chadema’s headquarters in Kinondoni on Friday September 22, 2017, Mr Mbowe, who is the opposition leader in Parliament and MP for Hai Constituency in Kilimanjaro Region, said the party had no trust in internal security organs on their capacity to probe the attack and that’s why they have appealed to independent foreign investigators.

We suspect security organs are responsible for shooting at Singida East MP Tundu Lissu, says the main opposition party’s national chairman Freeman Mbowe.

“Evidence on the ground shows that they are the security organs are the ones, who did it and this is our stand,” he noted.

“We have requested independent investigators from Germany and the UK and they are ready to help, but it is only the government that can allow them to do so,” he said.

Mr Mbowe, who was in Nairobi accompanying Mr Lissu, who is admitted to a Nairobi hospital, said the patient was doing well and there was hope for recovery.

He added that at the hospital, there was tight security and doctors had barred visitors with no special permission from entering the room in which he was receiving treatment.

“We asked the hospital management to provide us security and they it did. So, Mr Lissu is well protected to ensure nothing wrong happens to him,” he said.
