Costech, which banned the launch of the report on Tuesday, said HRW researchers were required to register their research proposal with the Commission before undertaking the actual research.

Dar es Salaam. The Tanzania Commission for Science and Technology (Costech) reiterated yesterday that the Human Right Watch (HRW) officials did not follow the right procedures in conducting a research on the abuses faced by domestic workers abused in Oman and United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Costech, which banned the launch of the report on Tuesday, said HRW researchers were required to register their research proposal with the Commission before undertaking the actual research.

“By registering, they should have applied for a clearance and if the clearance was granted, they would be required to pay a research fee of $300 for foreigner researchers,” the Costech director general, Dr Dugushilu Mafunda said.

Dr Mafunda detailed a number of issues that must be followed before one conducts a research in the country, noting however that the findings of the banned could be right.
