Mwanza. Kagera Regional Commissioner Major General (Rtd), Salumu Kijuu, has warned councillors against bidding for tenders announced by district councils.

He made the remarks during a councillors meeting at Muleba on Tuesday.

He said stern measures would be taken against councillors discovered to own companies providing services in the district councils.

“There are indications that most of companies owned by councillors have been awarded tenders in various districts contrary to regulations,” he said.

He also advised councillors to effectively supervise development activities in their areas of jurisdiction and to immediately act on botched projects.

However, councillors expressed their concern as to why youth and women were not benefiting from the 10 per cent of the revenue collected by the district.

Kabilizi special seat councillor Adella Thomas said there should be transparency when allocating funds to special groups.

She said most youth and women from several wards have not received the money.
