Mwanza. The Resident Magistrates’ Court will determine a bail application lodged by two women charged with the offence of lesbianism. The court reached the decision after the prosecution challenged the defence counsel on the bail application. The court set December 15 as a day to deliver its ruling on the application. The accused are Ms Milembe Selemani, 35, a resident of Geita Region, Ms Janeth Shonza, a resident of Nyasaka in Mwanza and a student at St Augustine University of Tanzania (Saut). The two are accused of kissing and fitting each other engagement rings at one of the hotels in Mwanza. The court will also rule on bail applications by two other co-accused, Annet Mkuki, 24, who was a master of ceremony and Mr Richard Fabian, 28. (Jesse Mikofu)

Before senior resident magistrate in-charge, Wilbert Chuma, State attorney, Emmanuel Luvinga told the court that the applicant form indicate that the acting Regional Crime Officer (RCO), John Ndibalema indicate that the suspects should be denied bail pending further investigations.

He noted that the RCO report further indicate that the alleged offence committed by the suspects is contrary to the country’s moral of conduct.

Earlier on defense lawyer Mr Jebra Kambole pleaded with the court to grant bail to the suspects on condition that it is the suspect’s right to be granted bail.
