Creativity, innovation key to achieving sustainable development goals: government

Dar es Salaam. Members of the business community have been urged to enhance use of creativity and innovation in order to effectively address development challenges.

The move will help the global community to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within the set timeline.

This was said by the deputy permanent secretary in the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr Ludovick Nduhiyo, said on Thursday, October 18 when opening the 1st Annual General Meeting organized by the Global Compact Network Tanzania (GCNT).

Under the theme "Thought Leadership on Tanzania Business Practices Towards a Sustainable Corporate Investment".

"I believe that corporate sustainable practices attempt to strengthen the interaction between the companies and their stakeholders including consumers and civil society," he said.

Mr Nduhiyo said the number of Tanzanian firms that are signatories to the United Nations Global Compact stands at 60 current.

Furthermore, he said: "This gives me hope that we are on the right track to resolve some of the biggest sustainability challenges that the world is facing today."

Speaking earlier GCNT coordinator Emmanuel Nnko said in 2017, UNDP Tanzania through its programmatic intervention to the private sector development decided to support the establishment and consolidation of the initiative.
