Dar es Salaam. Dar Teknohama Business Incubator (DTBI) with support from Denmark Embassy has launched Tanzania Digital Youth Empowerment project (TADIYE) to empower youth to do business using mobile phones.

The dubbed project would help small and big entrepreneurs to learn and access e- business information through mobile phones.

DTBI chief executive officer, senior advisor of ICT and entrepreneurship Dr George Mulamula said on Friday that the 18 months project aims to offer loans and trainings to SMEs countrywide.

"We have received Sh2 billion from the Danish Embassy to help us implement the intended project accordingly," he said. He stressed that they decided to come up with such an initiative on discovering that most youth-run SMEs do not keep business records on transactions and profit.

He further noted that recently, they conducted business training to more than 70 SMEs run by women. Unfortunately, half of them didn't know if they  were making making profit or not.

"The kickoff of the project will create awareness on profitable business, help them access vital business information and trainings through ordinary phones. Therefore, youth should use this as an opportunity to expand their business, “he said.
