Dar es Salaam. Tanzania is hosting a two-day conference on better health for elderly people in Africa.

The conference focuses on promoting the older people’s rights to good health, well-being in dignity across the continent.

The Deputy Minister for Health, Community Development, Gender, the Elderly and Children, Mr Hamisi Kigwangala, has said on Thursday that the majority of women and men in Sub Saharan Africa are getting to their finest age with minimum support from health providers, families and communities.

"To deal with the problem, the government is implementing the policy of having dispensaries in every village and health centres in every ward," he said.

According to him, with these initiatives, he is confident that people including the elderly persons will have a good opportunity for better health services at all levels.

The conference attracted participants from Malawi, Ethopia, Zimambwe, Mozambique and Sierra Leon.
