Dar es Salaam. The key financier of the operator of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), NMB Bank, is rooting for better fortunes in the signature infrastructure facility even as commuters raise issues with the quality of services.

NMB Bank managing director Ineke Bussemaker said she was optimistic the BRT currently operated by Usafiri Dar es Salaam Rapid Transit Company (Udart) will continue to revolutionise movement for millions of Dar commuters.

“Dart is a key project and one of its kind in Tanzania and the region, we’re confident it will continue to play a central role in the city’s transportation system,” said Ms Bussemaker in an interview.

She told The Citizen that while there were concerns on the efficiency of the services, NMB Bank was confident the operator will improve performance with time and as completion from new operators beckon.

“It is clearly evident that the operator needs to deploy more buses to meet demand but this being a new project means it has been a steep learning experience for everyone,” she said.

The MD advised the operator to consider using the electronic cards more as the paper tickets were prone to revenue leakages.
