Dodoma prepares for Premier’s arrival

Dodoma. Regional authorities have organised a special welcoming ceremony for September 1, in honour of Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa who will permanently shift his office here from Dar es Salaam.

The schedule shows that the Prime Minister, who will be the most prominent Dodoma resident, will be received at Mtumba Village before he proceeds to Jamhuri Stadium where he will address residents.

Mr Majaliwa is moving to Dodoma to fulfill President John Magufuli’s order that the government must shift its seat from Dar es Salaam over the next four years.

Speaking during the Heroes Day on July 25 in Dodoma, Premier Majaliwa pledged to move to Dodoma in September and asked other ministers to start thinking of how they were going to follow suit.

Speaking during a religious leaders’ peace committee meeting here Saturday Dodoma Urban District Commissioner Christina Mndeme asked residents of Dodoma to come out in large numbers to receive the Prime Minister.

Evangelical Lutheran Church of Tanzania (ELCT) Dodoma Diocese Bishop Amon Kinyunyu said the government move to Dodoma comes with pros and cons.

“For instance, we are witnessing a lot of conmen.  I appeal to Dodoma residents to be careful,” he warned.
