Ukerewe. Former Ngoma councillor in Ukerewe District Clezensia Mihando, 55, who was attacked and seriously wounded by suspected bandits at her home, will be laid to rest today.

Ms Mihando (Chadema) died on Friday, while receiving treatment at Bugando Referral Hospital.

She was allegedly attacked by unidentified bandits on September 19, when she was with her husband Peter Bandama, 62.

Mr Bandama told this paper on Saturday by a telephone that her wife was confirmed dead at the hospital.

Preliminary investigation, according to the husband, indicates that she sustained serious wounds after the bandits hit her head with a sharp object.

He noted that her body was transported to her home on Saturday and would be laid to rest today.

He described her wife as innocent, who lived happily with everybody in her village.

He noted that her wife served as a Special Seats councillor between 2005 and 2010 before she was elected as councillor a position she served between 2010 and 2015.

Recalling the day her wife was attacked, he said unidentified people hit the door using a heavy object.

“We were both ordered to lie down, but unfortunately they hit my wife with a sharp object on her head causing her serious wounds,” he said.

Besides the assault, they stole Sh30,000.

Chadema secretary in Ukerewe District Deonatus Makalanga urged the police to ensure the culprits were arrested and prosecuted.
