Govt sets aside over Sh160m for buying medical equipment

Dodoma. The government on Tuesday, November 14, said it had set aside Sh160.86 million for the procurement of medical equipment and other relevant facilities for Sokoine Hospital in Singida Region.

Deputy minister in the President’s Office (Regional Administration and Local Government) Joseph Kandege said with Sh160.86 million, the government had already paid the Medical Stores Departments (MSD) Sh41.45 million for medical supplies.

He was speaking in response to Mussa Sima (Singida Rural-CCM), who wanted to know what the government was doing to improve medical facilities at the hospital.

He noted the government had also managed to procure medical equipment worth Sh102.93 million through the Health Services Bask Fund (HSBF) and National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF).

“Among the medical facilities we have managed to purchase are 20 hospital beds, three delivery beds and other facilities,” he noted.

However, he added that the government would continue with its key programme of constructing health centres in various districts in the country and improving medical facilities.
