I will deal with coffee smugglers, DC vows

Mbinga. District Commissioner Cosmas Nshenye says he will revoke permits of buyers who smuggle coffee crop have them prosecuted for evading paying levies.

Mr Nshenye made the declaration on Wednesday, during an exclusive interview with The Citizen, in   which he also said that he would sanction district council officials who failed to collect coffee levies.

The DC ordered the council to follow up on farmers’ payments as had been agreed. The order came against a discovery that dishonest businesspersons had short-changed farmers claiming they had made payments.

“We have strengthened our committee on defence and security to curb the smuggling of coffee. I will have no mercy for coffee smugglers,“ Mr Nshenye said.

Mbinga District Council Director Gombo Samnditho, promised to implement the DC’s orders.
